Roy M. Rubin, MD

Testimonials

My son, Ryan, has been a patient of Dr. Roy Rubin's for a few years now. Dr. Rubin has preformed a meniscus repair and ACL reconstruction for Ryan. Only one year outside of surgery and Ryan is excelling at sports and is just as active as ever. He won three medals in the finals! We have found Dr. Rubin and his staff to be caring, professional and always made Ryan feel comfortable and safe.

As a side note: The experience has had a very positive effect on Ryan, he has decided he would like to be an Orthopedic Surgeon some day helping kids the way Dr. Rubin helped him and is working harder at his grades for future college acceptance.

We highly recommend Dr. Rubin and his staff!

Dr. Rubin treated has treated two complicated fractures in two of our children. The first fracture was a displaced broke left wrist in our oldest son.  Dr. Rubin recommended that we not perform surgery on the wrist in order to straighten the bone and explained that in children the bones can "remodel" over time and straighten on their own. It was unbelievable how that bone straightened out and we were so grateful that our son didn't undergo unnecessary surgery.  Two years later, our youngest son fell and broke off the end of his right elbow on a Saturday morning. We immediately knew that we needed him to see Dr.  Rubin. Even though it was a Saturday, Dr. Rubin performed emergency surgery on him that day.  Both breaks healed completely and  and we're convinced that had we chosen a general orthopedist, we probably would not have had the success rate that we had and would have probably incurred more complications and, potentially, more surgery. It cannot be underestimated how crucial it is for a pediatric orthopedist to care for these complicated breaks in children rather than a general orthopedist.  We will always be grateful to Dr. Rubin for his clinical expertise, surgical skills and caring manner and and would not hesitate to see him again (hopefully not!) if necessary.

Craig is a volunteer with Special Olympics, Unitey Way, and ran the Instant O Football Camp in Granite Bay for 4 years. As a former NFL player and active member of the community, taking care of his knee pain was extremely important to him. "Both of my knees had been bothering me for years. I've had numerous knee surgeries in the past: approximately 6 on the left and 8 on the right. I came to see Dr. Rubin in 2005 and he did an arthroscopic debridement on my Left knee which gave me quite a bit of relief. I knew I would eventually need to have my Left knee replaced and went to Dr. Rubin for a total knee arthroplasty in 2007. Before the surgery, I had chronic knee pain, especially when I took long walks or over-exerted myself. I also had to support myself when I was going down the stairs. I feel better and am extremely happy with the care I was provided with by Dr. Rubin and his staff. I have the life I wanted to get to know. I am active and have even lost weight. Dr. Rubin was a perfect fit for me - he is progressive, an excellent surgeon, and a good person. "

Rachel is a 15 year old girl who injured her little finger while playing soccer. She is a soccer goalie. As she dove for the ball, her opponent went to kick the ball and kicked her hand instead. Rachel sustained a fracture/dislocation of her little finger. Rachel's finger popped out many times. She then came to see Dr. Rubin. He used the Agee external fixator device to pin the fragment. Dr. Rubin was able to perform closed reduction and external fixation with the Agee dynamic fixator. She was followed every week with Dr. Rubin. X-rays were obtained in the office each week to check range of motion of her little finger. Dr. Rubin initiated occupational hand therapy for her as well to help her range of motion. We removed the hardware in our office and she tolerated the procedure very well. After removal of the hardware her range of motion increased significantly. "I was very scared that my finger was not going to heal all the way. Soccer is very important to me and I thought I would not be able to play again and be competitive. Dr. Rubin was great! He took very good care of me. He took the time to see me week after week, and he showed that he really cared to get me better and back to playing soccer. I wore the external fixator for 6 weeks, and now I am back to playing soccer and being goaly! I am very excited and grateful to Dr. Rubin and his staff for spending so much time to make sure I got the best treatment and the best results!"

I would definitely recommend the back surgergy that I had. Before surgery I had major back pain and numbness in both legs. I could not stand up straight. After surgery my back pain went away almost immediately and my leg numbness has been resolved. Six weeks after surgery, my back is better than it has ever been in the last 20 years.

Before coming to see Dr. Roy Rubin, I had a debilitating injury which kept me from being physically active on a daily basis. As a result of a sports injury, my left ACL as well as my meniscus was torn. I knew that having surgery was my only alternative if I wanted to continue an active lifestyle of backpacking, mountain biking, snow boarding and more. After having surgery I definitely feel significantly better than before surgery. I can now walk, bike, swim, hike and run without any pain! I am so grateful that I came to see Dr. Rubin. He is a great surgeon with amazing results. By extension, his office is courteous and professional making you feel at ease with each return visit. Thank you Dr. Rubin and staff!

My name is Serina, I am sixteen years old, and I had back surgery by Dr. Roy Rubin three and a half months ago. I had a condition in my back called Scheuermann's Kyphosis. It caused me severe pain and a hunchback deformity. Before the surgery I was limited in the things I could do. I couldn't sit for more then 20 minutes because my back would cause me very bad pain. I couldn't stand for more then 30 minutes. I would wake in the middle of the night because of the pain. I had constant headaches. When Dr. Rubin said the word 'surgery' I panicked. But I went ahead and did it because I trusted him. Now after only three months I am able to do so much more. I am comfortable with myself, it boosted my confidence. I go roller skating, I bowl, I can sit through a movie without any problems. I can do so much more than before the surgery. My headaches have decreased, and the pain has subsided. My back is straight and I am taller. It has changed my life and I am grateful to have such a wonderful surgeon and his staff. They were very good to me. So a thanks to them and to Dr. Rubin.

When I was on vacation last summer I fell off a wall and broke both bones in my right arm really badly. I had to have surgery to put in 2 plates and 10 screws. Everything healed and a year later Dr. Rubin took the plates and screws out. He also fixed my two scars. I feel better now without the plate sticking out. I can't wait until I can start to play basketball again. Thanks Dr. Rubin!

I was in pain for about a year with my knee. I had a torn meniscus and the pain was so bad I walked with a severe limp and couldn't sleep at night. I started to see Dr. Lesko for Supartz injections and they helped the left knee but the right knee continued to buckle and cause pain. At this point, Dr. Lesko sent me to have an MRI which showed a torn meniscus. Dr. Rubin discussed with me what the surgery for a torn meniscus would entail. He told me it was a very simple procedure with 2 very small incisions on either side of my knee. It has been 1 month since surgery, and there is no pain at all and I am not limping anymore. I can't thank these 2 Doctors enough. Thank You!

Our family came from Moldova. Our daughter Ekaterina had a birth defect on her left hand.  Two of her fingers, ring and long, were joined together. This condition is called syndactyly. During the winter she wasn’t able to wear a glove on this hand. It was difficult for her to play with certain toys as well. When the time would come, to wear her engagement or wedding rings, she would be embarrassed to show her hand to others. As her parents, we were worried about this the most. Soon after moving to the United States our primary care physician referred us to Dr. Rubin, who performed a reconstruction surgery to separate the two fingers. This surgery was a very complex, lasting several hours. It not only involved separating the two fingers but also required taking a skin graft from the groin in order to make the hand look normal. We thank God that surgery was successful. After several weeks, when the wounds had completely healed, Ekaterina was able to freely move her fingers, swim in the pool, play, and ride her bicycle. Today we are very happy that our daughter is healthy. She is able to show her hand to anyone without embarrassment. We are deeply grateful to Doctor Rubin, his assistant Michael Trofimenko, as well as all the medical personal at the clinic, who were very attentive to us. It was a pleasure for us to receive care from such kind and polite people.

Dr. Rubin is a great, nice doctor. He let me watch him work on my toe as much as I could. Now, after all that, he is letting me play football. I hope that I make it in the newspaper so that they can see how well I play!!

Initially, I was anxious with the whole process of 8 weekly casting and on how my son who was only 3weeks old would respond to the treatment. Each time, we were reassured by the friendly and professional staff and Dr. Rubin was supportive and gave us all the information we needed. It is tough to see your child's foot manipulated and casted but after each week, we saw the changes and it is worth all the heartache. By the time he was ready for the ponseti brace, My husband and I were thrilled. Finally, we get to see my son's legs again! I was happy at how nice the brace looked. My son easily adjusted to the shoes with no major problem. Over all experience is a positive one. Dr Rubin does an amazing job and the staffs are excellent. We are very pleased with the progress of Sean's treatment. He is now 15 weeks old and his foot has improved a lot. Thank you so much.

Injuries to the toes and fingers are common, and we treat a lot of these conditions in our office. Sports, home accidents, power tools, work benches, car doors, and heavy furniture all can cause injuries to the nail. Shoes can be protective for the toes, but often times we do not wear boots or shoes for convenience sake.

Nails grow along the nail bed. New nails are manufactured from the germinal layer. If the germinal layer is damaged, the nail will not grow. If the nail bed itself is torn or lacerated, the nail will not grow beyond the laceration. It is therefore very important to recognize when a laceration to the nail bed has occurred. A high index of suspicion is required.

A cut through the nail itself suggests a laceration. Fractures to the distal tufts of the fingers or toe are often times associated with a nail bed laceration. The more displaced the fracture, the more likely the nail bed has been damaged. The presence of blood underneath the nail is also strongly suggestive of nail bed laceration.

Dr. Paul Lesko, M.D.
